Day 3

We woke up at 7:00am for showers and a traditional Japanese breakfast. After cleaning our teeth and getting ready we headed out.
We had an hour train ride from Tokyo Station to Kamakura Station. At Kamakura we went to the Daibutsu temple and saw the giant statue of Buddha (just under 14m in height).
After the temple we headed down the road that lead back to the station and did some shopping in the small gift shops along the way. They were selling bracelets, dolls, traditional Japanese samurai weapons among other things. Once we finished shopping we went to the beach for lunch. The sand at the beach looked like ash! We had a fantastic view of Kamakura and Zushi which were are towns on the coast, these are very expensive areas of Japan.
After lunch we headed to the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. The temple is over 1,000 years old, and is part of the Shinto religion. The tree next to the large staircase leading up to the main part of the shrine is also a thousand years old. The tree is called a Gingko tree, and in 1200, a famous assasination occurred under the tree.
A very funny part of the day was when Matt C., Amy and Zac were busking in the street. Matt C. was rapping while Zac and Amy kept the beat going by clapping their hands, clicking their fingers and tapping their chest. We made 500 yen.
We then headed back to Tokyo for dinner and went to sleep early as tomorrow we are heading to TOKYO DISNEYLAND!
